Family Birthday Party

So...my son turned 10 this week. I usually throw a family dinner/lunch when my kids have a birthday. I think there were about 27 of us for dinner...and the kids outnumber the adults. I love entertaining but it usually leaves me so exhausted. I've been non-stop today...shopping, cooking, cleaning...I could barely walk by the time everyone left. I forced myself to put away all the food and now I'm sitting in bed chatting with you.

It takes some planning but I usually have a main meat dish and then a ton of side dishes. The star of the evening was the prime rib roast. It's the rave...my dad makes the best gravy. I couldn't decide what kind of cake to make since turning 10 means no more power rangers or army men decorations. I decided at the last minute to make faces on my cupcakes. It's not my best work but I think pretty good for last minute.

My son said it was the best birthday ever! I'm glad. It makes all the work worth it.

  1. Oh my gosh!!! That prime rib looks so delicious! And those birthday cupcakes are so cute - I mean, so awesome for a boy turning 10 years old. Please wish the birthday boy a Happy Birthday!!

  2. The cupcakes are adorable and holy crap that roast looks delicious!!!

I always got so stressed out by throwing big parties for my kids' birthdays, that I came to dread my kids' birthdays. That was no fun, so we have MUCH smaller, informal celebrations now! I wish I was as good at entertaining as you!!!
